Michelle and Bryce – Edmonton Winter Engagement session

Michelle and Bryce met up with us last month for their winter engagement session. We had to scout for a location that still had some snow sticking around in Edmonton, but we found some, we found enough that there was even enough for a snowball fight. They were tons of fun to photograph; fun and sweet and up for everything. We’re definitely looking forward to their wedding this summer.

Nicole and Michael – Engagement Photography Edmonton

Nicole contacted us about photographing her upcoming winter wedding after finding out about us online, and by sheer coincidence it turned out her sister was a good friend of my sister! As soon as we met with her we knew her wedding was going to be a blast. The way she talked about Michael, and their wedding plans would make anyone excited for them.

Nicole is so creative! She handcrafted and recreated an amazing paper backdrop with her sister and sister in law after being inspired from something she found online. It was gorgeous. It had this airy, fun and romantic feel to it that worked so well with the vibe she and Michael give off. They have so much fun together and were incredibly easy to photograph.

After spending some time indoors we headed out for some snowy winter engagement pictures too. Using one of the only places left in Edmonton that has snow on the ground still.

Edmonton Engagement Photography – Simon and Courtney

Simon and Courtney are getting married next year. He proposed in the winter at the Alberta Legislative Grounds near the Christmas tree, so we went there for their engagement session. It was a lovely fall evening and the sun was very cooperative, but when it came down to it, it was all about this great couple. Simon and Courtney are using some of these pictures for something interesting in the coming months and hopefully we will get a chance to show it off later. Elizabeth and Jeremiah – Jasper Engagement Photography

What better place to be than in the mountains for an engagement session. We met up with Jeremiah and Elizabeth in Jasper last week expecting to use its Autumn colours to our full advantage. The weather didn’t cooperate 100%, but we made the best of it and still had a great time. How could you not when you’re hanging out with these two? Jeremiah’s past Jasper stories and Elizabeth’s expressions as she watched him share them were priceless. We had a blast hanging out with them for the weekend, and exploring all of the beauty Jasper has to offer. The colours in the mountains almost looked like they were painted on a canvas. Here are a few images of the lovely couple and of the mountain area.

Laura and Matt – Edmonton Engagement Photographers

Last week Laura and Matt invited us to Matt’s parent’s acreage out by Stony Plain, for their engagement session. When Laura first suggested it as a location, I had a feeling it was going to be awesome. Open fields, gorgeous skies, mixed with an abundance of tall trees and a cute, fun loving couple… We couldn’t ask for more! Unless of course we wished for a gorgeous sunset.

We first met Matt as a groomsmen in Landon and Diane’s wedding last summer. To be asked back to photograph another wedding within this group of friends is very exciting for us. The wedding is sure to be an amazing day with such a great group of people.

Matt’s parents gave us a tour of their beautiful property and started a fire for us to enjoy after the sunset. We had a great time exploring the area and getting to know Matt and Laura better. At the end of the night we had a marshmallow roast by the fire. It was the perfect way to end the night.

What to Wear? – Edmonton Engagement Photographers

Fall is upon us and to us that means we’re squeezing in as many portrait sessions as possible before the leaves turn completely, and the weather cools off even more. We have a few family portrait sessions coming up as well as a bunch of fun engagement sessions and I wanted to take a minute to share a quick style guide with everyone. One of the most common questions asked before a portrait session is ‘What should we wear?’

Typically I write back with a few notes on the importance of feeling AWESOME in whatever you choose, and about the importance of picking colours from the same colour pallet (It really helps to bring things together for the session), and that I don’t actually mean matching everything exactly.

This year I’ve decided to put out a little style guide to help give some ideas. I’m going to try and continue to do this each season for people to pull ideas from. Hope it helps. Let me know what you think! And if you have any other questions, just ask. We’re happy to help. (Shaun’s actually pretty good at styling…I often need to ask him for advice before heading out )

Linda and Raad – Edmonton Engagement Photographers

Linda and Raad are getting married this weekend! They have a busy week ahead of them and to add to the flurry we threw in an engagement session too. These two are adorable together. They look great infront of the camera and it’s easy to see how much they care for each other. Raad’s smile was constant. He was so into Linda and she was so into him. We’re very much looking forward to photographing their wedding at the Shaw Conference Centre this weekend.

Harvey and Mahory – Edmonton Engagement Session

This gorgeous looking couple is getting married at the Oasis centre in a couple of weeks. They claimed they weren’t too comfortable with having their pictures taken…but all we saw were two incredible people, who made each other laugh constantly and were way more photogenic than they lead on. Last week we took them out on an evening stroll through the river valley and then down Whyte avenue. It was great to get to know them a little better, and hear about their wedding. Harvey had to fly back to Winnipeg, where they currently live, but Mahory is staying in Edmonton to finalize all the details.

Weddings in Alberta Engagement Session Contest Winners – Trish and Cory

Weddings in Alberta held a contest this past June. Every day they gave away prizes from local Alberta Wedding Vendors! We offered up an engagement session including a custom designed album from the session. Trish and Cory were the lucky winners.

They are getting married this September and have planned quite the day. Both of them are Hot Rodders at heart. They are actually using them during the wedding day to cruise around in instead of limos.

We headed out for a fun session on a sunny evening a few weeks ago. The mosquitoes were rampant, but it didn’t get in the way of the couple at all. Cory and Trish cuddled and smiled all the way through it.

Jennifer and Robert – Edmonton Engagement Session

Gordon and Talia are photographing Jennifer and Robert’s wedding next weekend, but Shaun and I got to shoot their engagement session. Their wedding sounds like it should be lots of fun. They’re one of those couples who have a large group of great friends that go way back and the bridal party is sure to be a blast. These two were so easy to photograph, fun to be around, and sweet. It was easy to see how good of friends they are.

We took them out for the session in to the core of the city’s river valley for some out door natural images and then tried our hand at a night at the movies as its one of Jennifer and Roberts favourite past times. Its always fun to incorporate a personal side in portrait session. A real movie theater didn’t end up working out, so we improvised and things turned out pretty good.

Sam and Joe – Bonnyville Engagement Photography

Sam and Joe are getting married this August. August 20th to be exact (our one year anniversary!). We’re actually looking forward to working on their date because their wedding is going to be beautiful. We get to photograph them sharing their vows amongst the pines in Garth, Alberta. Literally, they have found a location in the middle of some pine trees to hold their ceremony!

We drove out to Garth (just outside of Bonnyville) last week to photograph their engagement session. Sam told me when she booked with us that they both loved trees (as do we!) and they had a few areas in mind for some locations, so we didn’t know exactly what to expect. But… I don’t think Shaun and I could have picked better locations if we’d tried. We were right in our element. Surrounded by pines, willows, shrubs, and meadows. They even took us to Joe’s Grandfather’s property that had an old barn and homestead in the back.

Sarah and Andy – Calgary Engagement Session

Sarah and Andy live in Calgary, but are getting married in Edmonton this weekend. Because of all of our crazy schedules we were only just able to get their engagement session done last week. We lucked out (even with there being so many mosquitoes) and had gorgeous weather with beautiful light available for their session. They took us on a stroll through their neighbourhood and down into the Calgary’s river valley.

We’re looking forward to their wedding, not only because it promises to be an entertaining night with 2 sets by The Provincial Archive at the TransAlta Art Barns, but because they’re incredible people.

Sarah is doing something a little unique and a whole lot of awesome as part of their celebration. The day after the wedding, she’s shaving her head… yes, bald!

She is doing this to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. She’s almost reached her goal of $10,000, and this week her dad will be matching donations! (up to the amount of $10,000). Donations can be made at www.wedhead.ca.

University of Alberta Engagement Session – Brad and Mandy

As many of you know, Scade Photography is a family business. We have 3 full-time photographers. Steph is the main voice of the blog and everyone knows her. I throw in a few posts every once in awhile, but I have been around for a long time, so I am known a bit as well. But the least amount of blog presence goes to Gord. Gord started the company over 30 years ago and is still a major part of the company. July is looking to be a very busy month for him as he has a couple of his own weddings and a few sessions. One of the benefits of 3 photographers is that we have several different combinations available. This was a session led by Gord and I.

Mandy and Brad are getting married this month and Gord is the lucky photographer for this lucky couple. Gord and I took them to the University of Alberta for their engagement session. The campus is an extremely versatile location that can yield several different looks and feels. We had a a great time around campus and found a bunch of different areas that we have never used before. Here are a few of our favourite images from the session.

Edmonton Engagement Photography – Danica and Mark

Danica and Mark are getting married in July 2012, but we decided to photograph the session this summer as Mark is leaving right away for a tour in Kandahar and will be away until December. I’m honestly humbled when I think about everything those in the military give up for us and how committed they are. It’ll be hard for Danica and Mark to be apart for these next six months, but anyone can tell they’ll make it. Full of smiles and admiration for each other, it’s like watching a couple on those first few dates.

They’ve enlisted help from the fabulous Rebecca from High Culture to help with all of the planning, so Danica wont have everything on her plate. If their wedding is anything like the engagement session, its going to be a blast. The session was so relaxed and fun. We started out in a grassy field, but were chased away by storm clouds so we headed to an indoor back up location. Something we’ve never tried before, West Edmonton Mall. Danica really liked the black and red decor at the Red Piano Bar so we started out there and had a drink and took a few fun shots. Then we headed through the mall using the vast variety of areas available. Eventually the sent of Cinnzeo cinnamon buns won us over and we ended the session with a tasty treat.
